CamdenResources.org
Hopeworks has begun a site titled CamdenResources.org. At
CamdenResources, different organizations can publish an online profile
of their services, listing program times, important contact information
and any pertinent news/events items. CamdenResources allows an
easy way for the people and caregivers in Camden to find the services
that they need. Check it out at www.camdenresources.org.

Youth Researchers
4 other youth were "youth researchers" this summer. They spent
the summer working with Lisa Bouillion (Professor, Graduate School of Education
- University of Pennsylvania) to develop a web site just for Camden youth. They
plan on launching their site this September at www.camdenyouth.org. |
New
Educational Program begins September 2003
In conjunction with the NJ Juvenilce Justice Commission,
Hopeworks will begain a program this September which will help
youth to enter the "Ability to Benefit" Program at Camden
County College. Hopeworks College Bound (HCB) allows a youth

Lights
Out!!!
When the recent blackout in NYC happened, five Hopeworks youth
and one staff were stranded overnight. They
had all gone to NYC for the day to see an exhibit
on design
at the
Cooper-Hewitt
National Design Museum. Fortnunately, some
helpful Jesuits (friends of Father Jeff's) helped
them to find
a place to stay the night and they returned
safely the next day!
Hopeworks Goes to San Diego
A group of 8 youth along with Father Jeff and Matt Grove attended
the ESRI conference in San Diego in early July. Frank,
Trang, Ed and Matt gave a presentation in front of 11,000
people! It
was great to share Hopeworks with so many.

Trees,
Trees and more Trees
This summer Hopeworks is involved in two GIS projects that have us surveying
trees throughout the City of Camden. In conjunction with the Housing Authority
of Camden and the New Jersey Tree Foundation, 21 youth are daily measuring crown
widths, tree diameters and identifying tree species.
Needless to say, there are many budding arborists here at Hopeworks! |

Videos
Galore
Father Mark Scalese, SJ spent the month
of July teaching 10 youth the intricacies of video. Through
a generous grant from the Cherry Hill Rotary Club, Hopeworks was
able to outfit a small video. Youth learned the importance
of the Rule of Thirds, Symmetry, story boarding, interview techniques
and much more, youth were able to produce their own personal videos. During
the upcoming fall, four Hopeworks youth will continue to work with
Father Mark, SJ to create their own personal documentaries. |
