Hopeworks presents at MIT "Forgotten Cities" Workshop
Father
Jeff, Tiana Davis, Yesenia Nieves, Angel Rodriguez and Elyse
Smith flew to Boston, on November 3rd, to present at a luncheon
talk at MIT. Hopeworks and the reality of Camden was
the focus of the talk. Each youth helped present one specific
aspect of Hopeworks to the interested audience. While
there, the the group received a tour of MIT and visited Harvard
Square.
Keep December 3rd Open
Hopeworks
Board of Directors is hosting an Open House at Hopeworks on
Friday, December 3, 2004. Hopeworks doors will be open from
10:00 AM until 4:00 PM. Our youth and staff will be providing
our visitors with tours and information about Hopeworks. Refreshments
will be served. Come join us for a day of food, fun and surprises!

Holy Name Students come to Hopeworks
Every
Wednesday and Thursday Hopeworks comes
alive with the fourth grade class from Holy Name School. Mark Ford, Hopeworks Lead Trainer has created a program that
the children can understand and learn at Hopeworks. Ms. Maggie Mattern, the fourth teacher accompanies her students and is studying the Hopeworks Curriculum.
Hopeworks Receives WIB Grant
Hopeworks
successfully wrote and received a workforce investment grant
from the Camden County Workforce Investment Board. This
grant allows Hopeworks to hire a Literacy Director and will
give Hopeworks the opportunity to develop a Literacy Program.
NCAL Literacy Workshop
On
November 9th, Fr. Jeff and Jim Bopp presented at the National
Center for Adult Literacy (NCAL) first annual YouthHub Workshop.
Fr. Jeff and Jim presented on the topic of Literacy and
Technology and how this can encourage youth to bring positive
change to their communities.
Fourth Annual Youth Development Conference: Inspiring Community Action
Representin'...Yourself,
Your Community, Your World was the theme for the November
12th Conference sponsored by the Greater Philadelphia Federation
of Settlements and the United Way, held at the Pennsylvania
Convention Center. Fr.
Jeff presented to the adults attending this conference, while
the youth along with Kathleen Deitch and Jim Bopp,SJ attended
many of the workshops presented by the youth and adults. The
youth attending the conference were: Luis Rodriguez, Jorge
Torres, Alex Mercado, Samantha Mojica, Jaleesa Gonzalez, Jamaal
Johnson, Randell Cook, Isaiah Jones, Nicole Reyes and Cynthia
Reyes. Hopeworks youth came back filled with ideas and
enlightened by the presentations they attended.
GIS Youth Present at Penn
The Cartographic Modeling Lab at Penn invited
Hopeworks  GIS
team to present at their GIS day on November 9, 2004.
Natashia Wilson and Yesenia Nieves presented on projects
they have worked on at Hopeworks to youth in the Philadelphia
area. Rahsaan Smith and William James also attended the
day.
Welcome
the Newest Addition to Hopeworks
Through
a unanimous vote of the youth and staff, Hopeworks traveled
far and wide to the NJSPCA to bring home the one and only
cat of his kind....J-Peg. Jay has been a welcome addition
to the Hopeworks family. He has been with us only a short
time and is already the most popular here (excluding Fr. Jeff).
