George H Hutchinson III

(President)

President of Hutchinson Business Solutions LLC, located in Haddonfield, NJ. He and his wife, Janet have been married for 28 years and also live in Haddonfield. They have four children, George 25, Brenton 22, Elizabeth 20 and Grant 17.

I was introduced to Hopeworks 4 years ago. I was invited to a friendraiser where I met Fr Jeff. There were several Hopework students, who attended the event. Their talents and dedication impressed me. Upon talking to them, I could see the spirit of Hopeworks allowed them to discover the possibilities and nurture talents they were not sure they even had. I came to see the value that Hopeworks bring to the children of Camden and I wanted to see how I could help.

George W. Bur, S.J. I grew up in the Philadelphia area in a traditional Catholic household. My four siblings and I all attended Catholic schools and colleges in the area, myself at Saint Joseph's Prep School, the Jesuit high school in the city. Together with several of my high school classmates, I joined the Jesuits in 1959 and proceeded to college, philosophy and theology studies in the Jesuits, including a Master's degree in Physics at Catholic University.

I taught math and physics at two Jesuit high schools but after ordination to the priesthood in 1972 I worked with Catholic Charities in Baltimore in a ministry devoted to the housing issues of minority families. In 1985 I began pastoral and educational work at the now-closed parish of the Church of the Gesu in North Philadelphia. I was its last pastor. Together with the IHM Sisters and an extraordinary group of lay people, we kept what was the parish school opened as a private Catholic school sponsored by the Jesuits and the IHM Sisters. Gesu School serves the needs of neighborhood minority children, most with very limited educational options.

In August 2003, I moved across the city to Saint Joseph's University as the rector of the Jesuit community. My duties now include the fostering of a Jesuit community according to our norms and the authenticity of the Jesuit mission here at the University. My principal University duty is making the University more attractive to Philadelphia urban youth, particularly underserved minorities.

Presently I am on the board of two local charter schools, Gesu School, Hopeworks of Camden, Summerbridge of Philadelphia, Immaculata University and Saint Joseph's University.

I have an interest in Hopeworks for two reasons: I want to encourage the success of Hopeworks created by a Jesuit who was influenced by other Jesuits doing similar work; and secondly Hopeworks inspires young minorities to do their best, a work that has engaged me for the last twenty years.

MaryAnn Ragone

Executive Director of the Camden Eye Center, a non-profit eye care facility providing vital eye care services for 45 years to the uninsured, underinsured, and needy residents targeting Camden City, Camden County, and Southern New Jersey areas.  Hopeworks created and designed the website for the Camden Eye Center.

Born in Camden and raised in Cherry Hill, I received my Bachelor’s of Arts from Glassboro State College (now known as Rowan University) in Biology.  Several years after college, I completed a post-baccalaureate degree from Rowan University in secondary school teaching.  More recently, I completed my post graduate study at Fairleigh Dickinson University with an M.A.S. (Master of Administrative Science).  I am presently taking a certification program in fundraising at the University of Pennsylvania with an anticipated completion date of May 2007.

I have been a member of the Camden Lions Club since 1996. I served as an instructor for the Lions Clubs International Association Emerging Lions Institute training Lion members’ leadership skills in preparation for their position as President of their local club.  I became the first female District Governor of District 16C (South Jersey area) of the Association of Lions Clubs International and served during 2005-2006.

Since 1996 I have been a member of the Sons of Italy and presently serve as a trustee.  Other involvements include the Association of Fundraising Professionals and participation in a youth training mentorship with Rev. Floyd White and the Woodland Community Development Corporation.

I had met Father Jeff at a number of functions a few years back and was introduced to Hopeworks at that time.  I also attended one of the computer back-up training sessions.  I will never forget while in that training session how knowledgeable, professional, courteous, and polite the children were.  The youth of today need good mentors, guidance, and hope.  Hopeworks provides that for children – they give them HOPE and a basis for fulfilling their dreams.

I was asked to join the board by Father Jeff.  I am honored to have been asked to be a part of this board and the good work that is being done here.
