This summer our Web and GIS teams have combined skills and talents and created a new force at Hopeworks: GEB! Starting next week there will be 2 GEB Teams busy working on projects in Camden and each one will be led by one of our 2 Jesuit Scholastic volunteers. A group led by Sean Toole will be mapping historic Harleigh Cemetery in Camden. Harleigh Cemetery is where many famous Camden citizens have been buried including Walt Whitman. The project calls for the team to use hand held GPS computers to mark the graves of all Civil War veterans in Harleigh (there are more than 300 of them) and then plot them on a map, and then combine them with Google Earth imagery.
Another group led by Phil Cooke will create a beautiful and functional road map of the City of Camden. The map will have every street and highway clearly marked along with parks, schools, historic sites and much more. There is also room for sponsors to place advertisements on the map! There is lots of interest in this project by many residents and organizations in Camden. Look for the map to be completed in August, and printed and distributed by October! |
