Former Hopeworks Trainees Graduate from Camden County College
Mark Ford and Miguel Zavala both graduated in May from Camden County College with Associates Degrees. Mark and Miguel both worked in Production while at Hopeworks, and Mark was Lead Trainer. Congratulations to both of them!
Three Hopeworks Trainees to have Internships
Tiana Davis, Angel Rodriguez, and Ed Figeuroa will all be partaking in summer internships. Tiana, a nursing major at Camden County College, will be working at the Federal Court in Camden. Angel, who will be attending Savannah College of Art and Design in the fall, will be working at the Stock Exchange in Philadelphia. And Ed, a Journalism student at Rutgers University New Brunswick, will be working along with GIS Director Tarren Anderson to oversee the Summer GIS surveying project here at Hopeworks. Good luck to all of them!
Hopeworks Welcomes New Director of Operations
Hopeworks welcomes Sean Dougherty, in the new position of Director of Operations.
Sean Dougherty spent the last 17 years as a partner at a film and video production house specializing in sports and marketing productions. Along with his partners Sean has won several Emmys and their programs have been recognized by the Parents Television Council. He hopes that his creativity and organizational skills will help Father Jeff and the entire staff here lift Hopeworks to an even higher level! Welcome Sean!
Hopeworks to Present at CTCNet Conference
Web Director Todd Mariani and GIS Director Tarren Anderson have been invited to present "Google Maps: Plotting a Course for At-Risk Youth" at the National CTCNet Conference in Washington, DC. Director of Operations Sean Dougherty will also be working with youth from Hopeworks to create videoblogs for the conference as well as a video presentation that will be seen at the closing session.
Hope Through School Closes Out the School Year
Hope Through School recently celebrated its last day of the 2005-2006 program. The youth and staff celebrated their successes with pizza and games. Francis Ayala, Adriana Castro, and Chris Kendrick worked all the way up to their personal websites, and are eligible for jobs with Hopeworks this summer. Great job to everyone in the Hope Through School Program! The 2006-2007 HTS program begins July 5th!
Hopeworks Visits Judge Trump-Barry
Hopeworks youth Juan Corona, Gabe Washington, Tiffany Berry, Klara George and Ashley Matthews visited the Federal Court in Philadelphia with staff members Leigh Anne Purnell and Jen McCann. The youth met beforehand with Judge Maryanne Trump-Barry and her law clerks to get a behind-the-scenes look at America's justice system. They were then able to sit in on the cases of the day. The youth had a wonderful learning experience. Big thank you to Judge Barry!
Hopeworks Presents in St. Louis
The last weekend in April, Hopeworks youth Mario Arriola, Sade Coley, and Sabrina Gomez, accompanied staff members Father Jeff Putthoff, SJ and Jen McCann to St. Louis, MO to present at a Hopeworks Social. Each youth prepared their portion of the presentation, and then presented to about 50 future friends of Hopeworks! While in St. Louis, Hopeworks went to the top of the Arch as well as had the famous Ted Drew's frozen custard "Concretes." A fabulous time was had by all, and the youth gained some great experience in public speaking. Many thanks to Anne and Jim Orso for hosting Hopeworks, as well as Mary Gioia, Mary Mondello and Patty Fedder for organizing the social!! Thanks also to the many new friends of Hopeworks!
Golden Keyboard Awards given to Holy Name Youth
Typing Toward the Future finished up this week as school is coming to an end. The 3rd and 4th graders celebrated with food, fun, and awards. The Golden Keyboard Awards were presented to 3rd graders Adalberto Rosado and Tatiana Morales and 4th graders Lismairy Robles and Edwin DeJesus. They worked hard all year long, and learned a great deal about typing! Hopeworks 'Typing Toward the Future' program was featured on the cover of the Catholic Star Herald. entered into production... took her placement exam at Camden County College..., and registered for fall classes at Camden County College... registered for classes at Community College Philadelphia...was accepted to Hallahan High School... was inducted into the National Honor Society at Camden Charter High School... will be graduating from CCTS on June 23rd and is planning to attend Savannah College of Art and Design to study video game design...Holy Name School will hold its 8th grade graduation June 16th... registered for Fall classes at Camden County College...Former Hopeworks Trainees , , and will all be graduating high school this month...stay tuned for more exciting news to come!
Hopeworks held its 2nd annual Board Retreat at Dooley House in Camden. Board, staff, youth and community participants made it a day filled with energy and many ideas. Four distinct groups were formed focusing on Vision, Programming, Facilities and Board Development. These various groups have been meeting and are quickly drawing up plans to address these areas.
