Spirituality of Fundraising Workshop in Washington, DC

ld on November 9-11, 2005 in Washington, DC. The workshop was sponsored by the Humanitas Foundation and presented by The Fundraising School Center on Philanthropy Headquartered at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. The keynote address on the Spirituality of Fundraising was given by Kerry Robinson whose family founded the RASKOB Foundation. Fr. Jeff, Francesca and Kathleen came back excited and ready to put in to practice all the tools they were given at this workshop. Many thanks, to the Humanitas Foundation for the opportunity to participate in this worthwhile training.
Hopeworks Welcomes New GIS Director & Youth Developer
Hopeworks welcomes Tarren Anderson, our new GIS Director. Tarren recently moved to Delaware from Minnesota. He has Degrees in Computer Science and GIS. Tarren is looking forward to working at Hopeworks because,"Hopeworks is an interesting and exciting place where I get to blend my GIS and web skills together". We all welcome Tarren and are very blessed to have him here!

Welcome to Damariz Perez who has been hired as an assistant youth developer and receptionist here at Hopeworks. Damariz is a mother of 4--including a set of identical twins! We are lucky to have Damariz energy and enthusiasm here at Hopeworks!
Hopeworks to Present at Ethnography Forum at UPenn
The Ethnography Forum is an international conference in education held annually at the University of Pennsylvania. Hopeworks youth will be presenting along with Carol Thompson, a Ph.D. candidate at Penn doing research at Hopeworks. Their presentation, entitled "A Role of Their Own:Youth Perspectives on Participating in One Youth Organization" will include presentations by Mario Arriola, Tiana Davis, Norma Martinez, and Elyse Smith.
Carol and the youth will discuss Hopeworks as a model for understanding
the interaction of technology, role, and language in youth development. The youth and Carol are using Hopeworks unique structure to look at the ways in which youth move from novice to expert and how becoming expert in new roles in which playing a variety of roles is linked to development. Congratulations to this group for their acceptance to the forum!
Hopeworks Open House
On December 8, 2005 from 10am to 1pm, Hopeworks will be hosting an Open House! All are invited to stop by and say hello. Take a tour of Hopeworks, and talk to youth and staff. Then head upstairs for some refreshments with the Board of Directors. So stop by and get in the holiday spirit with Hopeworks!
Hopeworks youth will be attending the Speak Up! Listen Up! Youth Development Conference to Inspire Community Action, in Philadelphia on December 16, 2005. At the conference they will be encouraged to
speak up, listen up, and learn about issues in the community, school, youth programs, and everyday life. Hopeworks youth Angel Rodriguez and Elyse Smith will be facilitating a workshop entitled "Peace in the Streets". They will be joined by Sgt. Kelley of the Camden Police Department to discuss how police affect peace in the streets, and how Camden and Philadelphia can bridge together.
