On November 20, 2002 Hopeworks celebrated "GIS Day" with the Church of the Advocate after-school program and the Cartographic Modeling Lab at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Six Hopeworks trainees taught the Philadelphia youth from the Church of the Advocate introductory GIS skills and then each pair was able to create and present a custom designed map of their neighborhood. The Hopeworks trainees also toured the campus of the university and were shown some of the advanced GIS projects that the CML has created. It was an rewarding day for all.
