Hopeworks Experience

Day Training  

The goal of the Day Training component of the literacy program is to prepare youth for college or to academically prepare youth to pursue their career goals. When a trainee enters the program the T.A.B.E. (Test of Adult Basic Education) is administered. Each youth then works with the Literacy Director in order to develop an Individualized Education Plan. Each Day Trainee is provided with a minimum of 135 minutes (3-45 minute sessions) of prescriptive individualized instruction in reading, writing and mathematics each week.

Hope Through School

The goal of the Hope Through School component of the literacy program is to provide academic support to middle/high school enrolled youth. To be eligible for Hope Through School a youth must be in 8th-12th grade. The goal for all HTS youth is to earn a high school diploma and pursue post secondary education. Youth are required to maintain grades of “C” or better. No youth is permitted to participate in training with a grade of less than “C”. Youth that do not meet the minimum grade requirement are placed in Homework Help. Youth work with the literacy director for the duration of HTS on school assignments until they bring in a progress report* (earliest report in 4 weeks) saying that their performance has improved to “C” or better.
