Encourager Guidelines
An
encourager’s role is to help a new Hopeworks trainee feel welcome
and also to give encouragement to that trainee to help him or her
continue in the Hopeworks program. The encourager will send one email
per week to the trainee loaded with caring encouragement for the
new trainee. As an encourager, you will get a short bio of the trainee.
About
the Hopeworks Trainee
There
are different types of Hopeworks trainees: those in the day training
program, those in after-school programs, and those in the GIS production
team. You could be matched with any one of these types of trainees.
The
trainees in the day training program spend six hours per day at Hopeworks
learning how to build web pages. The basic curriculum includes
HTML I, Internet Basics, Photoshop, ImageReady and HTML II. Once a trainee
finishes the basic curriculum, they work on their own personal website.
After they complete
their website and a short production test, they have the option of moving
to the production team, where they earn a stipend and work on real
client websites.
One of Hopeworks’ two after-school programs,
Hope Through School, has the same curriculum as the day training
program but is for youth
still in high school. These trainees have the opportunity for an after-school
job once they finish the basic web training.
The second after-school program,
the GIS production team, produces high quality maps for local community
and economic development
groups.
