The GIS Trip to San Diego

This past Fourth of July the SummerGIS teamd, Matt Grove and Father Jeff went to the ESRI User Conference in sunny San Diego, California. Getting there was a trip in itself because of the flights we had to take and the time zone changes which really hammered away at our sleep! But, when we landed in San Diego, the first thing that the team started to shout was "WEST SIDE!!"

Our first day in we were all extremely tired so we decided to relax at the hotel and watch the Fourth of July fireworks by the bay. We went to sleep very late because of the fact that San Diego is so nice! Waking up at 6:00 a.m. the next morning wasn't very fun (thanks Father Jeff). After eating breakfast, we hurried to the conference building held in beautiful downtown San Diego? Here is a clip from the docks.

Group at the beach Ah, the beach? Father Jeff told me that one of the best things about the beach was the "sound" . . . the sound of the waves splashing everywhere. The beach was also very fun because of all the cool surfing we got to see. Look at the surfers in the background!

Braving the waves
The water looked cold! But that wasn't the case when the team built up the courage to jump in and take on the waves of the Pacific Ocean! ...we showed those waves the power of Camden youth!

The Conference was very "educational" as Manny says because of all the workshops that explained so many different ways to use GIS in our world. Everyone was amazed at what can be done with GIS. Here is a photo of Manny and Ed woking at one of the sessions.

This is the Expo where there were a lot of cool things so see, and a lot of free stuff to grab. The best booth was definitely the 3D image booth. At this booth, they took data from a town and scaled it out in 3D. They even went so far as to take pictures of the buildings and paste them in so they would look like they do in real life!

Hopeworks' Presentation

People were "inspired" and amazed when Matt and Father Jeff presented Hopeworks to the conference. Many thought Hopeworks was great at what it does and hope the best for all of us youth. Great presentation guys.

Here is the team looking their best, anxious to get home and see their families again!

Sunset

Doesn't this sunset calm you? The tiresome flights weren't as bad because of the beautiful scenery we were able to see, and that was needed after all the talking we did at the conference! The GIS team was very happy to return to New Jersey. There were many memorable moments on our trip, and we hope to have more at next year's conference!
