Golden Mouse Award Given!
On June 24th, Hopeworks held it's first annual
Trainee Recognition Banquet. Over 30 people attended the
festivities at the Old Country Buffet. A highlight of the
evening was the presentation of the "Golden Mouse" award. The
award is presented to a trainee who has shown exceptional growth and
perseverance in their training. This year's awardee was Jose
Nunez. Jose was our first trainee to earn college credit
through Camden County College (he received 3 credits for
JavaScript). But more importantly, Jose has worked hard at his
professional skills of being on time, planning and implementing
projects and taking charge of his future. Congratulations to
Jose!
GED Planning
The Maryland Province of the Society of Jesus
has generously granted Hopeworks $25,000 for a pilot on-site
GED program. We are excited about the possibility of creating
an integrated GED program that works along side our training
curriculum. With both the GED and the 15 hours of college
credit that trainees can earn through our program, youth will be
able to transition to the college environment. Our hope
is to secure additional financing and to have the program running
sometime this fall. As many of you know, having this
program in place will be a tremendous asset for the youth
of Camden!
Youth Entrepreneurial Grant

Camden Empowerment Zone
|
Last month, Hopeworks concluded a
two-year Youth Entrepreneurial Grant sponsored by the
Camden
Empowerment Zone. This grant helped over 70 youth receive the Hopeworks Training and
EDTEC, INC Youth Entrepreneurial Training. Our partnership with the Camden
Empowerment Zone continues this summer with a grant for $6,000 to
help fund our summer programs.
