GIS Services Project Assistant job description.

Hopeworks 'N Camden (www.hopeworks.org) is an innovative youth development program that uses geographic information systems (GIS) training to work with urban youth in Camden, NJ. Hopeworks has an advanced curriculum and training program by which youth are able to earn college credits and gain valuable professional skills. Hopeworks hires advanced level trainees to work in our GIS Services business to provide them with valuable, hands-on experience. Applicants must have: a desire to work with youth, project management skills and capacity for sales and customer relations.

Hopeworks is seeking to hire a GIS Services Project Assistant who would be responsible for the following areas:

  1. GIS Project Sales
  • Seek out new GIS business revenue.
  • Engage current and potential clients.
  • Write contracts and scopes for projects.
  • Be able to explain concepts and possibilities to clients who are unfamiliar with the technology.
  • Prepare brochures, PowerPoint and other promotional information.
  1. GIS Project Management
  • Manage timeline and workload for GIS projects.
  • Oversee youth involvement in designing and managing projects.
  • Finish projects on strict timelines and within budget.
  1. Youth Leader/Role Model
  • Provide a positive role model for youth. Encourage respectful interaction with others and respect and care for Hopeworks
  • Structure learning through projects that are managed by trainees.
  • Find ways to engage strengths and challenge weaknesses in trainees.
  • Be genuinely interested in trainees' lives both in and outside of Hopeworks.
  1. Requirements:
  • Effective project management. Please provide examples and references of previous project management and organization capacity.
  • Ability to keep projects on time and within budget
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for sales/customer relations.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the principles of geographic information systems
  • Microsoft Office (including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Interest in learning new technologies, self-motivated, independent, committed, enthusiastic, caring
  • Must desire to make a difference with their lives.

Technical skills:
Competency with Microsoft Office software is a must. Previous experience with GIS, Microsoft Project and Microsoft Access are pluses.

Salary: $25,000-$30,000/year
