Hopeworks ‘N Camden Partners With New Jersey Tree Foundation and Local Residents to Plant 34 Trees

Nearly 75 volunteers from the community and local organizations expected to participate

(Camden, NJ)- Hopeworks ‘N Camden is partnering with the New Jersey Tree Foundation to plant 34 trees on Saturday, October 8th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The trees – which consist of Japanese lilac trees, red maples and serviceberries – will be planted along one square block surrounding the existing Hopeworks community garden located at the corner of North 6th and Grant Streets in Camden. Each tree weighs 500 lbs. The event is open to families and children. Tools, training, gloves and refreshments will be provided.

Hopeworks is receiving the trees from the New Jersey Tree Foundation as part of their Urban Airshed Reforestation Program (UARP). The UARP is the Foundation’s community-based street tree planting program, which began in Camden in 2002. The goal of this project is to improve Camden’s air and water quality while empowering residents to create positive changes in their own communities. For several months, North Camden residents have been working with Hopeworks to organize this tree planting in their community.
