Training Mission
Technology training is the core of the day to day activities for youth at Hopeworks. Our youth learn state-of-the art computer applications: website design, geographic information services (GIS), computer networking and repair, and digital video. But at a deeper level, our training program reinforces our mission of youth development – D.R.E.A.M.S. –Dynamic
Realizable
Efforts
to Attain
and Maintain
Success. As youth progress
through our training curriculum they experience Success.
They are challenged, tested and must put in a lot of Effort
in order to attain their success. These are all skills that
they will need as they move on in the academic and corporate world
beyond Hopeworks.
At Hopeworks, we combine computer-based learning
with on-the-job learning and learning-by-teaching-others, to
show our youth that they can learn. This motivates
and empowers them to learn even more, creating an extraordinarily
effective learning-to-learn cycle.
All
elements of the Hopeworks program are connected. Youth cannot
do well in our training curriculum without progressing in their
individual literacy program. And youth must work on the plan
that they create in Formation in order to successfully apply for
a job at Hopeworks. Together – training, Literacy and
Formation all come together to help youth identify and develop their
DREAMS and own their future.
